In a long standing tradition of not caring about airport safety...

I really don't think this story about the kid in the control tower is such a big deal.

I mean, clearly the child wasn't taught how to use all the equipment and decide if the planes could take off or not, and obviously the pilots he was talking to weren't worried.  If their safety was in danger, don't you think they would show some sort of concern?  This leads me to believe that he was in his father's lap, saying what his father told him to.  What's wrong with that?  What if the guy just had some sudden onset laryngitis?  That kid would have saved the day in that case.  No one would be whining then.

Am I just being too blase (imagine a ` on that e) about this?

No, I thought the same thing.

Plus, they were in the tower with other people, from what I gathered. I'm pretty sure if the kid had randomly said, "Okay plane go fast now ZOOM!!!" the pilot might have questioned it.

THANK YOU BOTH! I had the EXACT same reaction. I mean admittedly, my parents were not flight tower controllers or anything, but on the random days I went to work with them, I always got to do a little something (completely supervised)
Myabe this shows some slight bad judgment on the parents' side, but honestly, who wouldn't/hasn't done it.

My dad once put a labcoat on a 17 year old friend of mine (who totally looked older) and let him stitch up a patient while he supervised.

I mean....no he didn't?

uh, that's clearly way worse than taking on a microphone. i wish i could say that my dad let me land a plane on the AFB, but really he just made me play solitaire on the computer while he did stuff.

I also don't see what the huge problem is. I mean, the pilots were having a good time, it wasn't an emergency situation, who gives a shit.

The father (or whoever) was obviously there according to the transcripts that I read... I'm sure crazier shit happens all the time.
